Openverse, the popular online library of free and open-source photos, images, and audio, has moved to its new standalone domain, openverse.org. This move, which took place on February 8th, 2023, also brought with it improvements to the site’s homepage, header, and footer. The previous domain, wordpress.org/openverse, will now redirect to openverse.org and users will still be able to access Openverse from the WordPress.org header. Openverse remains an important component of the WordPress project.

This change is expected to bring improvements to the site’s SEO and usability. Finding the perfect image or audio to accompany your project has never been easier, as you can now search the Openverse library with keywords and filter by content type, sources, aspect ratio, size, open license, and public domain status. With over 600 million free-to-use images and audio files available, Openverse is the ultimate resource for anyone in need of creative content.

According to a tweet from WordPress, “The wait is over! Check out Openverse’s new home: http://openverse.org—complete with a fresh look and over 600 million free-to-use images and audio files for all your projects. #WPOpenverse”
