On Thursday morning the social media platform Instagram had a widespread outage, affecting more than 27,000 users globally, according to outage tracking website Downdetector. The reports of issues began to surge around 7 am, with over 50% of the outage complaints pertaining to server connectivity problems and 20% related to login issues.

The UK, India, and Australia were among the countries with the highest number of affected users, with roughly 2,000 complaints from the UK and over 1,000 reports from India and Australia each. There has been no official statement from Instagram so far about the cause of the outage or when the issue will be resolved. #Instagramdown quickly became a trending topic on Twitter as users took to the platform to express their frustration with the outage.
